The Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal is 33 miles long and more than 200 years old.Following the construction of the Monmouthshire canal from Pontnewynydd to Newport in 1791 work begun on the Brecon canal in 1797 and was then linked to the Monmouthshire in 1812.
In the 1820s the canal was the main form of transportation for Iron, coal & limestone and although no longer a working canal it still remains a place of great beauty, and it is hoped that the pictures on this site will encourage people to visit the canal which is an important part of the areas heritage.
We hope you enjoy viewing these pictures and anyone wishing to contribute any of their own pictures or comments please forward them to Tom at the email address at the bottom of this page, click under contact me.
